Nodpod alternatives: weighted and flat masks compared
If you're searching for a Nodpod dupe, you probably want one of three things: the same weighted feel for less money, the same weighted feel in a different design, or a mask that actually stays on until morning. Those lead to different masks. Nodpod is a strap-free, bead-filled weighted mask that drapes over your eyes, and its maker says plainly that it's meant to help you fall asleep, not to stay on all night.
Worth knowing up front: we make DOZZI, a flat strapped mask. It isn't weighted and it isn't a Nodpod dupe. We've never bought or worn a Nodpod, so every Nodpod detail here comes from Nodpod's own product page, read in September 2026.
The short answer
- You want the weight and the drape, for less: look at other bead-filled weighted masks, or a simple lower-priced weighted eye pillow.
- You want the weight, but held in place: look at a weighted mask with a strap, such as Manta's weighted mask.
- You want darkness that lasts all night: weight isn't what you need. A strapped mask that stays put, like a flat mask for side sleepers, does that job better.
What Nodpod is, according to its maker
On its product page, Nodpod calls its mask "The Weighted Blanket For Your Eyes." It's a long fabric strip divided into pods filled with small plastic beads. There's no strap. You lay it across your eyes and the weight holds it there.
According to that page, as of September 2026:
- The standard mask costs $38, and a silk version costs $68.
- It weighs 9 ounces, spread evenly along its length.
- The fill is polyethylene beads. One side is cotton and the other a softer plush fabric, so one side feels cooler than the other.
- It can be washed in a garment bag, and Nodpod suggests air drying.
- For side sleeping, Nodpod says to put the last two pods over your eyes and rest your head on the hollow end.
- For sitting upright, you pull one corner through a slit in the strip so it holds in place.
The part that matters most for anyone shopping for a dupe is in Nodpod's own FAQ. On the same page, it says its purpose is to help you relax and get to sleep, "not to stay on all night." Nodpod adds that it may slip off once you're asleep. That's a candid answer, and more useful than a promise would be.
What Nodpod does well
The weight is the point. Some people like the feeling of gentle pressure across their eyes and forehead as they settle. Nodpod built a whole mask around that feeling, and it's clear about it.
Nothing to fasten. With no strap, there's nothing to pull through your hair or adjust in the dark. You drape it and you're done.
It's honest about its job. Plenty of masks claim to do everything. Nodpod says what it's for, and that makes it easier to decide whether it suits you.
It washes easily. A mask you can put in a garment bag is a mask you'll actually keep clean.
What people want from a Nodpod dupe
"Dupe" usually means a cheaper version of the same thing. We use the word here because it's what people search. We're not suggesting any product copies Nodpod, and we'd look at what you actually want before picking a substitute.
The same weighted feel, for less. The pressure is what you're after, and $38 feels like a lot to test it. A lower-priced weighted mask or eye pillow can tell you whether weight helps you before you spend more.
Weight that stays in place. You like the pressure, but a strap-free mask slides off when you move. A weighted mask with a strap keeps the weight on your face for longer.
A mask that's still on at 4am. This one is different. If you're waking to early light, a streetlight or a partner's phone, the problem is darkness that doesn't last, not a lack of pressure. Weight won't fix that, and Nodpod doesn't claim it will.
Other weighted masks
Manta WEIGHTED Sleep Mask, $49 as of September 2026. According to Manta's product page, it weighs 290 grams, a little over 10 ounces, and puts gentle pressure around the eyes rather than on them. Unlike Nodpod, it has adjustable straps that go round the back of your head, and Manta says it stays in place through the night. Manta says to hand wash it only. If you like the idea of weight but want it held on, this is the closest direct comparison. For more on Manta's range, see is Manta worth it.
Lower-priced weighted masks. GQ's April 2025 guide to sleep masks picked a Kitsch weighted satin mask filled with microbeads and dried lavender, listed at about $24 at the time. GQ noted that it isn't full blackout and that side sleepers may want to skip it, because the beads feel awkward under your head.
Simple weighted eye pillows. A plain eye pillow, a small fabric bag of beads or seeds with no strap, is the most basic version of the idea. They tend to cost less than branded weighted masks. They're usually shorter than Nodpod's long strip, so they sit on your eyes rather than wrapping across your face. If you're choosing one, look for a removable, washable cover and ask what the fill is. Nodpod's FAQ argues that plant-based fills can't be washed, which is worth checking on any eye pillow you buy.
For more masks by type, see the best masks by sleep position, which has its own section on weighted masks.
When you don't need weight: flat light-blocking masks
If the goal is darkness until morning, the mask needs to stay on your face through every turn. A strapped mask can. A draped one isn't designed to.
That matters because the benefit of a mask seems to come from darkness that lasts. In a 2023 study in the journal Sleep, young adults who wore an eye mask every night for a week did better on memory and alertness tests than after a week with light not blocked. The study didn't test weighted masks, and it doesn't promise the same result for you. But it's a reason to pick a mask that's still on at the end of the night.
DOZZI, our flat mask, is one option. It's a padded cotton band with no eye cups, so it lies flat on the pillow when you sleep on your side or stomach. A shaped, ribbed panel sits in the gap beside your nose, where flat masks usually let light in. A wide wrap strap closes all the way round with quiet hook-and-loop, so there's no buckle or thin elastic at the back of your head. It weighs about 44 grams, around a sixth of a Nodpod.
That lightness is the honest trade-off. DOZZI isn't weighted. If gentle pressure is what helps you settle, a weighted mask does something ours doesn't. If you're not sure which you need, choosing a mask for side sleeping goes through the fit questions one at a time.

Weighted and flat masks side by side
This compares types, not specific products. Weighted masks vary in fit and weight by brand.
Is Nodpod worth it for you
It depends on what you want it for.
It may suit you if you mostly sleep on your back, like the feeling of weight as you settle, and don't mind the mask sliding off once you're asleep. That's what Nodpod says it's for.
It may not suit you if you want your eyes covered until morning, or you're waking to light at 5am. Nodpod says it isn't meant to stay on all night, so a strapped mask is the better fit, weighted or flat. For a mask to use on planes and in hotels, see a travel sleep mask for cabin lights and hotel curtains.
If you're unsure about weight at all, a lower-priced weighted eye pillow is a cheap way to find out whether pressure helps you before you spend more. Weight is a matter of feel, and it's hard to judge from a product page.
If you have glaucoma or another eye condition, check with an eye doctor before using any weighted mask. Nodpod's own FAQ says the same.
Questions people ask
Is a Nodpod worth it?
It can be, if you want gentle pressure to help you fall asleep and don't need the mask to stay on all night. If you want darkness until morning, a strapped mask is a better fit, because Nodpod says its mask isn't meant to stay on all night.
Can you wear a Nodpod all night?
You can leave it on, but Nodpod says it isn't designed for that. Its FAQ says the purpose is to help you relax and fall asleep, and that it may slip off while you sleep.
What is the hole in the Nodpod for?
According to Nodpod's page, it's a slit for sitting upright. You pull one corner through it so the mask holds in place, for example on a plane or reclined on a sofa.
Is there a cheaper Nodpod dupe?
There are lower-priced weighted masks and plain weighted eye pillows that give a similar kind of pressure. They aren't copies of Nodpod, and they differ in size, weight, fill and fit, so check the product page for the weight and whether the cover washes.
Is a weighted sleep mask good for side sleepers?
It can work, but it takes some care. Nodpod suggests putting the last two pods over your eyes and resting your head on the hollow end. GQ found that lying on the beads of its weighted pick felt awkward. A flat mask with nothing raised to press into the pillow is usually simpler on your side.
What are the side effects of wearing a sleep mask?
The usual ones are skin irritation from dirty fabric, marks from a strap that's too tight, and warmth. Weighted masks add pressure over the eyes, so if you have an eye condition, ask an eye doctor first. Stop using any mask that leaves your eyes sore or irritated.
If gentle pressure is what helps you drift off, a weighted mask is the right tool, and Nodpod is an honest version of it. If what you want is darkness that's still there at 4am, look for a mask that stays on instead.
